Visitor Business Manager Role
Job Role
The post holder will be responsible for planning, delivery, co-ordination, management and financial control of all aspects of the visitor business for Spetchley Park Gardens.
The ideal candidate would be self-motivated, empathetic and enthusiastic, capable of problem solving and prioritisation.
Job Purpose
To be responsible for the successful management and operation of the visitor business.
To deliver a positive visitor experience whilst achieving annually agreed targets as set out by the Trustees and senior management’s 10-year goals.
To manage and recruit the visitor business staff & Volunteers on a day-to-day basis.
To be responsible for the marketing & business development relating to all aspects of the Spetchley Gardens Charitable Trust.
Key Responsibilities
- To successfully deliver an open season designed to attract visitors in a profitable way.
- To be responsible for the exemplary presentation of all aspects of the visitor experience including rectifying any detractors which would impact on the visitor journey.
- To program events for the garden, including specialist tours.
- To identify new commercial opportunities to develop the profitability of the Visitor Business.
- The day-to-day management of the Interpretation and Learning Centre, identifying new exhibitions and ensuring that resources are regularly updated and maintained.
- To be prepared to work outside normal hours to the betterment of the Charity which may require attendance at evenings and weekends.
- To maintain the website, its content and developing virtual learning opportunities.
- To promote the garden and estate through social media, advertising and marketing.
- To work with existing garden and estate staff to undertake a lead role in the planning and management of public events.
- To manage budgets and seek alternative sources of funding to support audience and educational activities
- To be actively aware of the Health and Safety at Work Act and Risk Management; Carry out risk assessments in conjunction with the Estate Manager and Head Gardener to ensure that the staff, volunteers and visitors operate in a safe manner, and the events are fully covered.
- To be responsible for the sustainable short and mid-term financial success and strategic direction of the Visitor Business
- To be responsible for the small shop including product selection, pricing and managing the staff to ensure the smooth and profitable operation of retail and ticket sales and memberships.
- To liaise with the Cafe partner to ensure that they operate to the expected standards and to ensure good liaison with groups and visitors.
- To manage and promote group visits to the garden, including liaising with all estate departments and the Cafe.
- To manage the season ticket holders on all levels, including renewals and new members.
- To coordinate volunteers including recruitment, management and development associated with the visitor business.
- To provide access to quality learning experiences and facilitate the use of the garden for education by external organisations.
- Any other duties commensurate with the grade of the post.
Decision Making
The post holder will be expected to act independently with minimum supervision whilst on site.
Complexity/Problem Solving
The post holder will be expected to deal with and provide satisfactory resolution to a range of problems, some of which may be complex in nature.
Knowledge and Skills
The post holder will be required to have an ability to build effective relationships with partners, stakeholders and contractors to ensure successful delivery of visitor business outcomes.
Communication and Contacts
The post holder will be required to report both verbally and in writing to the Trustees as a key element of the role.

Hours 35 hours per week to include weekend working
Salary Range £30,000 - £35,000 pa, depending on experience
